Connecting the Bayonet Plug® to speaker cables

  • Please note: the Bayonet Plug® is correctly assembled when the Bayonet Plug® logo, molded into the rear housing, is lined up with the polymer section (featuring longitudinal slot) which supports the metal contact pin. It is only in this position that the housing locks the contact pin in place, and prevents it from sliding backwards.

Step 1. Prepare the plug

  • Dismantle the plug by gripping both the rear housing and contact pin section and turn the housing clockwise to release.
  • On the rear housing, unscrew the cable support screws and slide the insulated speaker cable through.
  • Gently slide out the contact pin from the front polymer support. Set aside the front polymer support. Please observe color-code: RED is for POSITIVE (signal) while BLACK is for NEGATIVE (return or ground). It is important that the contact pin be removed from the polymer support before soldering. This prevents it from melting.
  • Position the contact pin so that the rear solder platform and crimping section are exposed, ready to accept the cable.

Step 2.

  • Prepare the cable for connection.
  • There are two options for connecting the cable to the contact pin.

Option 1. Crimp bare wire and solder:

  • Remove 6 mm of insulation from your cable. Position the bare wire through the crimp opening (approx 1 mm of exposed wire will extend past the crimp opening). Crimp the wire with a suitable crimping tool.
  • Solder the crimped connection.

Option 2. Solder bare wire at solder platform:

  • Remove 5 mm insulation from your cable. Tin both the wire and solder platform (in front of crimp ring).
  • Position insulated wire through the crimping ring and solder wire at solder platform. Gently crimp onto insulation. This will provide extra support for the cable.
  • We recommend the use of a high quality lead-free silver solder.

Step 3. Replace housing

  • Replace the housing and secure cable support screws.
  • You may need to build up the diameter of the insulation by means of a PVC tube available from most hardware stores.
  • Following repeated insertion into binding posts, scuff marks may appear on the highly annealed high conductivity contact pin. This is normal and will not in any way affect sound quality.

Installing the CablePod™ 

  • The CablePod® can be used as a dual-gang unit supplied, or as individual units by removing the mounting plate. The dual-gang unit is designed to fit amplifier metal work or a loudspeaker terminal plate with a thickness of between 1mm — 10mm. Mounting
  • Drill or punch 2 holes 12.7mm (1/2 inch) diameter spaced 19mm (3/4 inch) between centers.
  • When installing into 11mm holes on 19mm (3/4 inch) centers, trim the spacing lugs on the rear of the mounting plate to suit. • Position the CablePod™ with the Red terminal (+) on the right hand side (when facing the knobs) to conform to industry standards.
  • Install locking washer and nut to secure the CablePod™ to panel.


  • We recommend the use of an 80-Watt soldering iron with a broad tip that offers fast transfer of heat. To assist the conduction of heat – tin your iron i.e. melt a small amount of solder on the tip.
  • Apply heat to the items you are soldering, and then apply the solder. The solder should always melt and flow easily. If not, your iron may not be sufficiently hot.
  • Tin the wire. Then tin the solder platform on each contact element.
  • Finally, bring the wire in contact with the solder platform — and apply heat to generate solder flow. Once the solder has flowed over the joint, remove the heat. To prevent melting of the polymer thread, we recommend inserting a metal banana plug (and a length of attached cable if possible) in the hollow aperture while soldering. The banana plug and cable will act as a heat sink.
  • We recommend the use of Eichmann Bayonet Plug® (banana) connectors as the ideal partner for the CablePod®.

Connecting the BulletPlug® to cables

  • Please note: before connecting the BulletPlug® to cables we advise that the polymer be allowed to adjust to the RCA socket. The BulletPlug® collar is a glass impregnated polymer that has ideal resonance, electrical, and thermal properties; but given the dimensional tolerancing in RCA sockets, the polymer head should have an opportunity to conform and essentially “mould” itself to the socket it is to be connected to.
  • The BulletPlug® should be handled delicately.
  • The return pin of the BulletPlug® is small and not as robust as the return on standard RCA plugs. Of course this also accounts for the improved sound quality.
  • If you have limited soldering experience, ask your Dealer to do the job.
  • The BulletPlug® is designed to accept any interconnect, digital or video cable up to 9 mm diameter.
  • This accounts for most cables. (Large cables can also be accommodated if you strip the outer sheath and feed the insulated conductors through the housing.)

  • The front section of the BulletPlug® comprises two contact pins – the signal (large pin) and return (small pin). Both pins have a solder platform at the rear of the pin that is thinner than the rest of the pin.
  • The platform heats up rapidly allowing quick and easy soldering.
  • This means a soldering iron needs only minimal time in contact with the pins to melt solder. Excess contact time with the soldering iron may deform the plastic polymer housing.

Step 2 – Solder the Return

  • Insert the stripped signal conductor into the signal pin
  • Using ETI’s High content (5.8%) silver content lead free solder, Solder the return conductor to the return (small) pin. If the return conductor on the cable comprises multiple strands, twist these together and tin before connecting to the return pin. If the return conductor is in the form of a braid, then split the braid, gently twist and tin before connecting to the return pin.
  • Ensure that the return conductor is formed (eg. You may need to gently bend the conductor) so the conductor sits flush in the soldering platform. The objective is to have the return conductor sit comfortably in the solder platform without pressure or stress on the wire.
  • The small dimension of the return pin can make soldering large groups of wires difficult, however the small size of the pin also contributes to the dramatic sound improvement of the BulletPlug® over standard RCA plugs.

Step 3 – Bend the Signal

  • Snip the remaining conductor from the signal pin
  • Screw the bullet plug housing over the body.
